poor online access but better than none..

relatively a small book for that price.. I was disappointed by the online access, old fashion looks like in the snapshot picture, non compatible with phones and tablets, needs flash player, some questions will keep coming, and some never come up.. however, I like that questions are related to clinical practice..

Excellent review book for the psychiatry boards, cert and re-cert, or for general review, covers psychopharm only. Questions are of a fairly high level of difficulty, answers provide adequate explanations, could be more extensive at times. Comes with online access to the electronic version, helpful for use on the tablet.

The book is intended to bridge the gap between a theoretical study of kinematics and the application to practical mechanisms. This objective of providing the techniques necessary to study the motion of machines while emphasizing the application of kinematic theories to real-world machines is consistent with the philosophy of engineering and technology programs.

The objective of this book is to provide the techniques necessary to study the motion of machines. A focus is placed on the application of kinematic theories to real-world machinery. It is intended to bridge the gap between a theoretical study of kinematics and the application to practical mechanisms. Students completing a course of study using this book should be able to determine the motion characteristics of a machine. Further, such analysis could be performed on design concepts to optimize the motion of a machine arrangement.

This second edition incorporates much of the feedback received from instructors and students who used the first edition of the book. First, a thorough examination of the accuracy for all equations and Example Problem solutions was performed. Second, solution steps have been added to the Example Problems, highlighting the general solution procedure. Third, the material on mechanism force analysis has been greatly expanded. These and many other modifications were made to more effectively promote the understanding of mechanism analysis.

It is expected that students using this book will have a good background in technical drawing, college algebra, and trigonometry. Also, knowledge of vectors, mechanics, and computer application software, such as spreadsheets, will be useful. However, these concepts are also introduced in the book.

The approach of applying theoretical developments to practical problems is consistent with the philosophy of engineering technology programs. This book is primarily oriented toward mechanical- and manufacturing-related engineering technology programs. It can be used in either associate or baccalaureate degree programs.

Following are some distinctive features of this book: Pictures and sketches of machinery that contain mechanisms are incorporated throughout the text. The focus is on the application of kinematic theories to practical mechanisms. Both graphical techniques and analytical methods are used in the analysis of mechanisms. A student copy of Working Model™ a commercially available dynamic software package, is extensively used in this book. Tutorials and problems that utilize this software are integrated into the book. Suggestions for implementing the graphical techniques on computer-aided design (CAD) systems are included. Every chapter concludes with a few case studies. These cases illustrate a mechanism that is used on industrial equipment and challenges the student to discuss the rationale behind the design and suggest improvements. Both static and dynamic mechanism force analysis methods are introduced. Every major concept is followed by an example problem to illustrate the application of the concept. Every example problem begins with an introduction of a real machine that relies on the mechanism being analyzed. Numerous end-of-chapter problems are consistent with the application approach of the text. Every concept introduced in the chapter has at least one associated practice problem. Most of these problems include the machine that relies on the mechanism being analyzed.     Solid textbook

    Required text for the course I took, way cheaper than the school bookstore. Sometimes, I thought things weren't explained well, and some of the questions at the end of the chapter used situations that were not addressed in the text. Even the instructor agreed with that. Also, the text deals with the theoretical aspect of some of the items, where our instructor was a retired engineer, and taught to the use of the subject matter in the real world. Overall though, the book was adequate

    Great Machine Design Textbook

    This book is pretty easy to understand, but it's short on images. I had to read a lot of text to understand the concepts. It is very clear in its descriptions; however. It's fairly easy to navigate around this book. It's created for people who are studying Machine Design. It's a textbook, so nothing like a plot.

    DO NOT BY THIS BOOK!!

    It appears this book was edited very poorly from the third edition to the fourth edition. For example we would be assigned homework problems at the end of each chapter the answers to the odd problems are in the back of the book but most of the answers are from the third edition text there were very few answers in the back of the book that were correct we know because our instructor had both editions of the book. There are numerous typos through out the book incorrect units bad equations the whole chapter on cams is useless none of the cam displacement equations work we had to use another reference when we got to the cam section. About the only thing in this book that was accurate was the graphical portions of each chapter that was it. I do not recommend this book if you need to learn anything about kinematics evaluated analytically.

    About the Author

    Sharon Adelman Reyes is program director for DiversityLearningK12, a consulting and professional development group specializing in the education of English language learners.

    She holds a Ph.D. in curriculum design from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she specialized in multicultural and bilingual education. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, she has worked as a teacher, principal, curriculum specialist, district administrator, college professor, and educational researcher. She has taught at the elementary, secondary, and university levels and is a recipient of the Kohl International Prize for Exemplary Teaching.

    Reyes has co-authored three books: Diary of a Bilingual School (with James Crawford; DiversityLearningK12, 2012); Teaching in Two Languages: A Guide for K-12 Bilingual Educators (with Tatyana Kleyn; Corwin, 2010); and Constructivist Strategies for Teaching English Language Learners (with Trina Vallone; Corwin, 2008). Her publications also include peer-reviewed journal articles, a peer-reviewed book chapter, magazine articles, curriculum guides, and program reviews.

    While holding academic positions at St. Xavier, Loyola-Chicago, and Gonzaga universities, Reyes developed and implemented undergraduate and graduate-level programs in bilingual/bicultural education and TESOL; taught in a graduate program in educational leadership in ELL contexts; and chaired the doctoral dissertations of students in related areas of research.

    Since 1999, Reyes has worked directly with K–12 schools serving low-income communities to improve curriculum and instruction in ESL, dual immersion, transitional bilingual education, and literacy. Her consulting has included developing, guiding, and evaluating programs; providing teachers with field support and professional development workshops on site; and working closely with school administrators to facilitate these efforts.

    She has presented in her field locally, nationally, and internationally, and has served as an educational consultant in school districts throughout the United States. Her current research interests include the preparation of educators and educational leaders for diverse classrooms and educational contexts, constructivist practice in ELL contexts, and bilingual schooling.



    Trina Lynn Vallone-Bastida holds a MA in reading from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois and is a certified Reading Specialist. She has spent several years researching multicultural education and language acquisition. Ms. Vallone has presented at several conferences where she has examined such topics as writer’s workshop, content area reading, working with struggling readers and best practice for English Language Learners. Ms. Vallone taught primary aged children before becoming an Assistant Professor at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Il, where she teaches Methods of Teaching Reading; Cross Cultural Studies and Reading in the Content Area. Currently, Trina is working on her Doctorate in curriculum and instruction at Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois.
