First Story For The Kraken King

Well to start with I read this story in the earlier anthology Burning Up (Berkley Sensation) after the author suggested it as a way for me to decide if I want to read the series.

Mission accomplished, it was amazingly good and the right amount of most everything, action, passion, a bit of humor and I don't know how it could have been much better.

The relationship between Ivy and "Mad Machen" was great, there was no "MINE!" moment that is so popular in a lot of PNR novels, it was a slow building romance (since she kinda hated him to start with it HAD to be slow) and it was timed almost perfectly. (you will love the "shootout" in the bar)

The action parts were done well and not overdone, the thing that had most concerned me was the need (or lack thereof) to have read the Iron Seas books, I am pleased to say it is not required, probably would have made a few things clearer but there are more than enough mentions of things to feed you any needed background.

I think I will be signing up for The Kraken King Part I: The Kraken King and the Scribbling Spinster (A Novel of the Iron Seas) very soon .

One of my favorite series Iron Seas

Loved this book. Great characters, fast paced adventures and hot romantic scenes. I love how Meljean Brook can write a romantic scene but not a sappy cliche one of the many reasons this series is an auto buy for me. I do not give details or spoilers in my reviews you can get that from the synopsis or excerpts. I want to share his much I enjoyed the book and if I would recommend it to others. This I can joyfully do for this book.

Happy to see this released as a stand-alone!

Meljean Brook's Iron Seas series is one of my favorite. She does steampunk and romance very well. I thoroughly enjoy a;; the main novels and the novellas just enhance the world she's already created.

Here there be Monsters tells the story of Ivy and Mad Machen (also seen in Heart of Steel. Yasmeen also makes a few appearances throughout the story. Ivy in desparation to escape London goes to Mad Machen offering herself in his bed in order to secure passage aboard his ship. Things take a twist when she second guesses her offer and ends up leaving in the middle of the night. Machen, for his part, was attracted to Ivy from the start. So when she leaves, he looks for her. For two years he searches for the "redhead who cheated him". He finally finds her and when he does he wants to make sure she doesn't leave again.

This is the perfect story to start out the series if you haven't yet. Meljean Brook does a wonderful job of introducing the alternate world and packing a full story into a little space. Very satisfying, I'm happy it was finally released as a stand-alone

A great book, with real information

Even though I was a student at Marshall U. from 1967 to 1971, an advid supporter of M.U. sports, and even tried to play a little football there in 1967, I was really surprised to learn what exactly went on at Marshall in the late 1960's and early 1970's. The recent movie WE ARE MARSALL, did not touch on some of the real problems MU was having in its football program along with its other sports. This book explains why the faculty and others wanted to drop the MU football, not the the story-line as presented in the "Hollywood-version" "true story" movie. I was their in that time frame, and I did not remember some of the details as displayed in the movie, but when I read this book all those rumors I really heard in 1969, 1970, & 1971(that I had forgotten about over time), came back to me, and finally made sense.

This book is great and I wish it had come out before the movie. This books presented a better story-line, as it dealt with the truth, and if filmmakers were so inclined, this story would have probably made a better movie.

i took my test in august 13'.
i used this book for my hesi exam which only had the reading,grammar,vocabulary,and math sections.
i used this website: testprepreview.com
*****i passed my math section with a 100 and my english composite score was also a 100. for the vocab section on the test, there may be words not listed in the book,but u can eliminate some obvious wrong answers.
****for the reading section on the test, the questions are straight forward!
!!!! theres no real way of studying for reading comprehension, i just basically memorized the hesi hints in that study section. memorize your terms for grammar,know ALL the VOCAB listed in the book,the math section had ALOT of subtracting,adding,multiplying and dividing of FRACTIONS,know your percents,KnOW MILITARY TIME. and again KNOW UR FRACTIONS!!! if u dont know how to work on them once,then u wont know how to do them 20 times !!!!math part was very heavy on fractions!!!
also,KNOW ur CONVERSIONS! practice how to convert using test prep website with practice questions in the book.
how i studied:
i made index cards for the hesi hints in reading comprehension, for all vocab terms, for grammar terms and tips, and for math i practiced all the problems OVER AND OVER again. make sure u practice everyday and constantly test urself using each chapter test and APPENDIX TESTS. practice makes perfect!

I just took my HESI admission exam (omg I was dying from stress)! I used this book as a study guide and I passed my HESI test with flying colors. The math and language section are good study tools just on its own. The science sections, you should use it as a skeleton of what you should study. Dive into your past biology/chemistry text books and read up on the subjects they mention in here. The test doesn't seem to go too much in depth and focuses more on the broad subjects. But, every test is different so it might be different for you.

Please don't listen to what anyone says. This book is everything that you need to score 90% and above average on HESI. I just scored 92% and some questions and reading passages were EXACTLY the same from this book. Just make flash cards for the vocab words, grammar terms, and some hard to understand anatomy and do all the practice questions. YOU WILL BE FINE.

Beginning with the premise that understanding personal family history is essential for making informed choices, McGoldrick, director of the Family Institute of New Jersey, offers an innovative method of combining genealogical research with self-awareness. An exploration of family history, according to the author, is done by plotting a "genogram," which is a family tree spanning three generations. Genograms of famous families provided here?Roosevelts, Brontes, Freuds and others?illustrate McGoldrick's thesis that all families have repetitive patterns such as illegitimacy or suicide that have been hidden from descendants. Understanding one's family patterns makes it possible, McGoldrick claims, to connect with one's ancestors and to recreate better family relationships for oneself. "Learning about your family heritage can free you to change your future," according to family therapist McGoldrick (Genograms in Family Assessment, Norton, 1985). Here she explores family patterns of birth order, sibling rivalry, family myths and secrets, couple relationships, class, cultural differences, suicide, and loss. McGoldrick believes that, when viewed properly, these patterns suggest that many repeated family experiences are not entirely coincidental. The key tool used is the genogram-a sort of annotated family tree that maps out family information, which she illustrates by mapping the genograms of several famous families. Questions at the end of each chapter prove to be extremely useful in aiding the reader to uncover family information that was previously clandestine, seemingly irrelevant, or simply overlooked. Although the writing is a bit dry at times-apparently targeting the educated lay reader and professional-general readers will find that this book is very helpful in researching and understanding family information and patterns of behavior. Recommended for marriage and family studies collections in academic as well as public libraries.

The daily conversation examples are so common that you can easily find yourself in one of these situations and use the knowledge you recently gained from reading this book! If you're new to the USA, use this book as your daily dictionary. If you're a seasoned ESL speaker, then I urge you to challenge yourself, because you are likely to find more than a few examples in which you will catch yourself saying "oh, I didn't know that". It's a fun read, I highly recommend it.

I really love this book

Speaking a language without using idioms and expressions is neither expressive nor full in meaning. Amy does a great job writing this book because it teaches us the idioms we need for daily life situations. Each lesson presents good stories and the associated idioms and expressions that go with them. Language lens is a grammar refresher and expression practice followed by quizzes all do a good job to practice what we learned. The audio CD that comes with the book helps the reader with the pronunciation and it can be played over and over again at reader's convenience.
