I like the smaller size of this reference book, it makes it easy to throw in my purse and have it with me. The information makes it really easy to look things up and not have to remember everything. I have used it several times to show friends how to use different features on gimp!

This little book needs to go away. The version of GIMP that it describes is long gone and not missed. The contents is nearly all useless, and there are so many better books on GIMP available.

depends on your class

Ok so I purchased this book as recommend by my instructor to assist with my masters level intro to epidemiology class. It is a good work book but I will list mostly cons. So first if your instructor recomends this book, wait until class starts to buy it. Find out if the instructor will be assigning work out of it first, or using it merely as a resource self study guide. Also see if it matches up with the Epi text you will be using. Many people in my class complained that this book did not go along with the book we were using. It often introduced concepts that we were not studying so you had to know to skip them. Also the terminology in epidemiology can be crazy confusing and there can be 6 terms for one thing and this book can add another. Often cocepts in this book were taught with different terms than what we used. Also I did not like how the answers are listed right below the problem. No work is shown either so if you were really stuck you could spend a good amount of time trying to figure it out.

But the way it is organized and designed was still very useful for helping me learn the required materials and terminologies.

In a democracy, the problem of fair division of goods is fundamental. It is, for example, what's lurking behind contemporary discussions of affirmative action, divorce law, and even of Medicare and Social Security. Its flip-side problem--burden-sharing--which is implicated in such issues as taxation and the draft, is likewise central. The authors, one a political scientist, the other a mathematician, start with an analysis of the well-known cake-cutting paradigm of "I cut, you choose" and gradually soup it up into a model capable of accommodating situations in which there are more than two parties, or more than one good. They emphasize division procedures that are not only proportional (that give each of n claimants a 1/n share of the good), but that also have the psychological property of being "envy-free"; that is, producing allocations in which each participant thinks (often wrongly, obviously) that he received the largest portion.

A comprehensive resource, easily read

This was easily the book I referred to most in my Master's paper on fair division. It covers a lot of topics, including envy-free and equitable division, fair division by auctions, and fair division by elections. The authors devote a chapter to their favorite method, the so-called "combined procedure" that is equitable, envy-free, and Pareto-optimal for two players and would be invaluable to any divorce lawyer.
For those accustomed to reading mathematics or economics, this book is readable. For the layperson, it might be a little bit too technical in spots. While it has many practical examples, it isn't really a fair division manual for the do-it-yourselfer. But it's as close as you're going to get, for now.

Something Worderful is Going to Happen

Steven Brams and Alan Taylor accomplish something quite interesting and worth paying attention to. They move concepts traditionally treated in policy debate and law with simple hit-or-miss human judgment and discretion into concrete analyzable mathematical processes. In the more than ten years that I've worked on the mathematics of child support, I have not yet been so convincing that such a transformation from subjective into objective is possible. Let the games continue!

A Wonderful real-life tale of Hope and the human spirit

This book tells an amazing story. There is simply no other way to describe it. It is the real-life story of Saroo, a five-year-old child in a village in central India, who gets lost and finds himself transported all the way east to Calcutta, some 1800 kms away. Young Saroo, all of five, penniless and illiterate, does not even know the name of his village and knows little else about where he was from. He gets off at the bustling, crowded Howrah train station and survives for six weeks in the intimidating bad and mean streets of Calcutta by his instincts and luck. He ends up at a benevolent orphanage called ISSA, where the kindly Ms.Saroj Sood - tries to find his family and re-unite him. But all Saroo can tell was that he was from Ginestlay, which is what he remembered as his village's name. He also mistakenly says that he travelled just overnight by train when in reality he had travelled almost 24 hours to get to Calcutta. After a couple of moths' futile effort, Mrs.Sood pronounces him 'lost' and organizes him to be adopted by Sue and John Brierley, a young couple from Tasmania, Australia.

Saroo is lovingly brought up by the Brierleys and he grows up into a happy and well-integrated Aussie over the next 20 years. However Saroo always wonders about his origins, with clear memories of his birth mother Kamala, his kid sister Shekila and elder brothers Kallu and Guddu, whom he looked up to as a child two decades before. He starts working on trying to find where he was from by using the feeble memories of his childhood. All he had to go by was that there was a train station whose name was something like 'Berampur' , that it had a water tower, an overpass across the tracks and that the town had a fountain near a cinema. His village 'Ginestlay' was somewhere nearby and that they were all reachable overnight by train from Calcutta. Gradually, over five years, with incredible patience and perseverance , Saroo, at age 30, using Google Earth's satellite images and Facebook, miraculously locates the train station with the identifying features of his childhood. He notes that a nearby town is called Khandwa and that there is a Facebook group belonging to people from Khandwa. He contacts them and gets the key info that there is a nearby village called Ganesh Talai - the 'Ginestlay' of 5-year-old Saroo! Saroo soon goes to India and reconnects with his birth family to the great delight of his elderly mother Kamala and his siblings Shekila and Kallu, who are now married with children. Sadly, Guddu, his eldest brother whom he adored as a child, was killed in an accident just on the same day that Saroo got lost 25 years before. Otherwise, it is a happy resolution for Saroo.

Not only Saroo, but his Aussie parents, Sue and John as well, come off as wonderful, loving and caring parents and individuals. Sue herself was a WWII refugee from Hungary and her story is also inspring as told it in the book. Saroo's birth mother Kamala is another remarkable woman, who never gave up hope that her son Sheru (which is his correct name!) would return one day. Hence she never moved from the shack where she lived so that she will be there when Saroo comes back! The other heroes in the book are the internet, Google Earth and Facebook! It is a great tribute to these wonderful technologies which make it possible for the adult Saroo to sit ten thousand miles away in Hobart, Australia and exactly locate the water tower and overpass of his childhood memory and find out the correct name of his village. Let no one denounce technology again!

I found the book moving, inspirational and one of hope and the indomitable spirit of the humankind. It is a story of triumph against great odds. Going through the early chapters where Saroo survives for six weeks as a five-year-old in Calcutta, I had palpitations as I felt anxious that nothing terrible should befall young Saroo! The book also has a special appeal for me since I grew up in India and lived for 13 years in wonderful Australia.

Kindness of strangers and Persistence can work miracles.

This was an awesome, harrowing, frightening, poignant, story of little 5 year old boy, lost in Calcutta. His instincts kept him alive, avoiding starvation, capture by nefarious men, and being beaten up by other homeless kids. His whole existence centered around searching for food. Hunger was always with him. This story makes you wonder why India doesn't try to help the millions and millions of its citizens whose lives revolve around searching for food and getting clean water. This boy finally trusted someone who brought him to a place for homeless children, and then he was moved to an orphanage The orphanage was run by a caring lady whose job was to find homes to place the orphans. Saroo's life took a complete turn in another direction when he was placed with a family in Australia. I can't wait for the movie to come out staring Dev Patel. I really hated the book to end. Saroo thrives in his new life, with the love of a mother and father. But he always wonders what happened to his mother and brothers and sister in India. He knows his mother would never stop hoping he would return home. He uses modern technology, Google Earth, on his computer to try to find his home in India, but he is relying on his 5 year old memory. This is a must read.

Incredible Journey

Probably one of the most fantastic "lost and found" stories ever written. No doubt, this has all the earmarks for an excellent screen play. I hope they do the story justice in the movie version.

The author addressed some of his inadequate assumptions in his search for home due to faulty memory. I kept asking myself, though, why he didn't search in areas where tigers are found in India. He recalled going to his father's house only a two hour bus ride from where tigers could have "eaten his brothers" when they ran away. A quick search of rail lines adjoining these few locations, along with a search for cities with train stations starting with "B", which he also recalled, would have yielded a quick discovery.

At the same time, his actual slow and methodical Google Earth search for home from Calcutta rail lines where he was lost only made the story more poignant since it was based on his memory and the frailties of his youth. It made for exciting suspense as he detailed his search, while the reader played with their own hypothetical forensic techniques to find his home based on 20:20 hindsight. Heck, even I could make a movie out of this story and sell it!

I liked this book and thought it was really funny

I received this product at a discount in exchange for a honest review. I liked this book and thought it was really funny. There were a few pages where the phrase wasn’t very funny or made a lot of sense but the coloring aspect of the book was pretty funny. The book has a link on the back of it to get some free coloring pages sent to you daily. It’s a pretty nice little offer that they give you. The book had pretty good quality paper as well as a lot of sayings. I received this item really quickly and came exactly when it said it would be. I didn’t like that the phrases weren’t really hidden like they are in some of the coloring books. This book was good but I think it could have been a whole lot better had the pictures been a little more and extended all the way to the borders of the pages. Other than that I think it was a little funny at least some of them are but other than that I don’t know if I would have purchased this at the full price. It’s a funny book but it could have been better.

I have been smiling ever since the UPS man dropped this off. I have wanted to say some of the things in this book to a boss before. Plus I learned a few phrases I have not heard before. I thought that it would be just another one of those small coloring book like the others. But this is a big book. The paper is thick good quality. With nice art work behind the words. There is hours of fun to do. Plus if you have been biting your tongue all day at work you can choose a page that is what you wish you could have said, sit down relax and color the page that you wish you could have said. I find it a great way to deal with stress. I usually come home cussing and complaining about how my day went. Now everyone is happy cause I have not yelled or cussed anyone out at home just because I was mad at someone or something else. It's more relaxed in the whole house hold cause there's not as much stress building up. I will post it when I am done coloring it as well.

why are you reading this and not buying all of these books already? seriously.

I never stopped coloring - at the risk of sounding like an obnoxious hipster, I was doing so as an adult "before it was cool". It's calming, relaxing, can be an opportunity for practicing mindfulness, and, quite frankly, can be incredibly fun (and - for me - is a creative outlet, as I really have no artistic ability in any other realm whatsoever). Now that there have been all these studies that say coloring as an adult is absolutely FANTASTIC for one's mental health (and, again, can be super fun - and a great opportunity to spend time with loved ones...young and old! - except maybe not so young if you're using THIS particular coloring book...*ahem*!), there's a boom in adult coloring books - both "serious" ones designed to help improve certain things (eg, creativity, anxiety, mindfulness, etc.), ones that simply exist, and fabulously wonderful ones that are on this earth to make it a better place by making us belly laugh from deep within.

Okay - first off: regarding the quality of the product as a coloring book...FANTASTICAL COLORING BOOK! The paper isn't super thin, easily torn, or anything like that - it's quite thick (I could use my markers without fear of bleeding through!), actually, and only one side has been printed on, so, if you chose to, you could tear out one of the pages and hang it up somewhere or give it to someone after coloring it - which is wonderfully passive aggressive, but I don't like OR hate anyone enough to waste this amazing book on them, so all the pages are staying with me - but I'll take the phrases, and use them as much as humanly possible. The pictures (ie, quality of the drawings) are just lovely.

I LOVE the fact that this is available as a "midnight edition", and the three that I own of this series are all the midnight version - I muuuuuuuch prefer the black background (I just really, really like the way it looks), but I find it very hard to find books that have black backgrounds. Of course there is the normal, white background version available as well, which I'm sure many people want, so that's a great option as well, I'm sure.

Now to the phrases...HILARIOUS and WHIMSICAL - which isn't a word I would normally associate with such vulgarity, but it absolutely fits. I have a mouth like an ex-sailing trucker with Tourette's, and I have a special place in my heart (and vocabulary) for..."colorful" inappropriate phrases, but the ones in this book (and the others) crack me up, blow my mind, and make me excited to insult someone. Just amazing. I don't know who comes up with this stuff, but I want to be their friend, because their mind is warped, and it's fantastic.

Based on the price; its value as a coloring book; its value as an "educational tool" (ie, expanding one repertoire of insults and retorts), mental health aid, hobby, creative outlet, general fun thing to do, and about a million other things; and the fact that its one of the few coloring book series I've seen that have so many options (ie, different styles without varying TOO much from the original concept), I can't recommend any one of the three I own enough (and, probably, the others from this author/company - though I can't guarantee them).

So, I agree - (ahem) that stress...go buy this book (and some coloring supplies if you need) already, and get to hitting your that (ahem).

Je suis presqu'a la fin du livre de notre soeur Farida. J'aime j'aime et je ne veux pas voir la fin.. mais plutot la fin de l'oppression. Je lance un appel a la diaspora togolaise de se mobiliser pour acheter 1000 livres " La Pression de l'oppression" pour les etudiants de l'Universite de Lome et de Kara" qui ne peuvent pas avoir les moyens de se l'acheter. C'est un veritable outil pedagogique, une arme non violente contre l'injustice et un camouflet contre les fauts democrate en Afrique. J'attend de pied ferme le prochain livre de La soeur Farida.

j'ai lu, relu et je vais relire encore. J'ai vraiment envie de bicher tous les mot de la pression de l'oppression. Que par le biais de ce livre cesse l'oppression du peuple Africain et en particulier du peuple Togolais. Faure must go! Que ce livre reveille beaucoup de consciences. Pour moi ce livre devrait être étudié dans les collèges et lycées pour que les élèves prennent leur destin en main. Pour ma part je compte en acheter pour certaines écoles de mon villages pour les meilleurs élèves puisque je n'ai pas assez de moyen pour tous.La pression de l'oppression, un livre à lire à tou prix!
